Recently I have been looking at my creative design process. I’ve been thinking critically about how I use social media to post every little thing I do because I see so many other artists doing that thing. Well a majority of these other artists already have fan bases as well. They are staying connected to an already established base of buyers and reaching out to new ones. With the way I use social media I am not benefiting the improvement of my art. It’s instant gratification and attention to the few people who enjoy my art. I don’t get approached for commissions and I am not well known. I suffer from too much trolling on the internet being a fan of art, and not doing art.
I have been asking myself is there a more measured controlled way to use social media in my design process? With Patreon I am going to implement the release of specific images as as I build up the image through out an entire month. This will allow me to think critically about the image subject I have constructed and think about how to improve the image over all. It may include multiple designs sketches. Scribbled layout with notes and color theories. Why Patreon? Because It delays a bigger reveal of the piece and in the end I only charge for the final image at the end of the month to my Patrons. Its subscription based to so if they find they don’t like my art they can always cancel.
I am hoping that this delays my gratification through social media allows me to improve my artwork through the month thinking about the image. Even if nobody is my Patron I will still have an Image that I forced myself to put in hours on, and an improvement of my art. I know it is a long shot but hopefully it works out.

I just wanted to keep everyone in the loop on my current projects I am involved in. Well for starters I am available for commission work and I am flexible with pay in regards to Artwork. I mainly do concept artwork but I can illustrate whatever is needed please email childersartstudios.com or contribute to my Patreon page to support my work! Thank you!
Currently I am trying to get a small press company,Spellhawks Press, off the ground by helping my long time friend Dustyn McCormick publish his novel Ragged EDGE. Since we do not have cover art I will give you the synopsis from the tale from the GoFundME.
“After a ferocious confrontation with a succubus to save the life of his psychiatrist, Sean Gryphon of Atlantis is ordered to protect human archeologist Dr. Ilsy Hillerman and her latest discovery, the missing ten pages of the Codex Gigas, also known as the Devil’s Bible. Sean and his unusual allies, Cajun werewolf Ben Jennings, and the Celtic Goddess Danu, risk everything to save Ilsy’s life from foes with powers beyond his own, and prevent the author of the Codex from opening a gateway to hell on earth.
That’s nothing too far out of the ordinary for Sean. Except this time the Atlantean Elder Council is tired of his cavalier attitude and threatens him with death if he fails. Even more terrifying than death threats, Sean finds himself falling in love with Ilsy”
It’s a urban fantasy with elements of the supernatural and adventure.
Next up I have a My Riftjammers Campaign Setting that has been eating away at my creative juices with the scope of it. Even before Paizo announced Starfinder I was obsessed with playing a Space Fantasy Campaign. I wanted to do a Guardians of the Galaxy, Firefly, Andromeda kind of setting with faraway alien worlds and unique playable races. I am a huge fan of psionics and Dreamscarred Press has some amazing classes & races. It’s also allowed me to really engage and follow many third party publishers which I thought Riftjammers would be perfect to release under Spellhawks Press.
I have Gnomes on the brain. This is an edited version of a previous gnome that I did. I am going to try and clean up the line work and see how it looks digitally too as well. This is a work in progress piece.
Aekasha The Merrywild Goddess is an amalgam of a nymph, naga, stag, and Angel. She is a protean fey creature who is exemplifies the magic within nature. She resides within and is apart of The Merrwild Forest. Her living sanctuary from the dark forces of Aerwyn. Song Elves sing of her dangerous beauty.
This is a watermarked variant. The watermarked free color corrected version is available for download for contributors of my Patron account.Prints will be made available as soon as the store is set up. thank you all who support my creative endeavors.
The Merrywild Forest is home to all manner of Feyfolk and other magical creatures. The Goddess ” Aekasha” watches over the Forest with serpentine gaze. In this form she is a hybrid blend Nymph, Naga,Stag, &Song Elf. She is a gregarious shapeshifter and deletes in the beauty of natural chaos.
This is pretty raw and needs cleaned up. The final image will be early released for my Patron backers before I post other places.
Ever since I purchased the Procreate App I have loved creating characters.I am not a photoshop guru like many artists are and most of these were done with my finger. Watching videos of myself drawing allows me insight on how better to improve my picture making process through digital media.

My Name is Allen Childers. Long ago in an age of wonder and creativity, basically the late 80’s and early 90’s, I decided I wanted to be an artist. I loved creating comic characters or “guys” and playing them in the back yard with my friends. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, He-man, & Ghostbusters were scattered across my bedroom and play areas for many years. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles actually had me in the Library a few times looking for new animals to turn into mutants.Needless to say much of my homework has had drawing on the side of it for most of my academic life.
Now I am not what you would consider professional by any since of the word. I have worked on various projects through the years including conceptual artwork for THE EDGE OF BEYOND. I have also contributed in games such as upcoming Dungeonborn Role-Playing game. Much of this is word of mouth and collaborative work. I have much to learn about art as a profession as well the craft.
1. Bring my artistic craft to a professional level through commissions, collaborations, and commitment. learning and improving my skill has always been a slow process for me. Improving my work ethic to draw well is about learning basic draftsmen skills and basics. This is a life long process..much like working out or martial arts. Never stop learning.
2. Becoming a Freelance Professional in the field of art may take me down many roads. Publishing, Art directing, video editor, content creator. I have to be able to navigate the business of selling art to clients. Also when people approach me for work I need to be able to converse with them in a lingo that works for establishing how I get paid, product expectations and so forth.
3. Recognize that my calling is to be an artist regardless if I am professional or not. There are many paths to creativity and not all of them are set in stone. There is a difference to being a professional freelance artist and loving art for the creativity’s sake.
There is a Chinese Fortune cookie taped to my labtop as I write this post that reads ” Discipline is the refining fire by which talent becomes ability”.. These words are resonated with me the first time I read it and i continue to glean inspiration from them when I feel like doing the same old thing.
Thanks for taking the time to read this post. I will Posting more artwork and starting to use this blog more as a means of chronicling my journey through my art. If you would like to help support me and my efforts to learn more from professionals who offer tutoring and classes as well as have me draw epic artwork for you stop my PATREON!Thanks!
